Mark O’Leary is currently head of network access at Jisc, following a number of data networking posts in the academic sector. Jisc is the not-for-profit government organisation that delivers data connectivity and associated services to the UK’s research and education community via the world-leading Janet network. The portfolio of his group includes a number of wireless services, including the flagship federated roaming services eduroam and govroam. Eduroam has, over the past 18 years, allowed the education community to share zero touch access to guest facilities at participants campuses, and this has in turn fostered a cultural shift in terms of increased collaboration and resource sharing. The govroam initiative is Mark’s attempt to transfer these benefits to the wider public sector.
